Become a NYLN Leader!
Governing Board & Committees Applications Now Available

It's that time of year again! The National Youth Leadership Network (NYLN), an organization that works to build power among youth with disabilities, is looking for new leaders for our Governing Board (GB) and our two new committees! We are youth-run, youth-led organization. Every member plays a big role. Here are some details:

What does the Governing Board do?

The Governing Board makes decisions for NYLN. Being on the GB involves at least two phone meetings a month. One phone meeting is for the whole Governing Board, and the other is for a committee meeting. The phone calls plus the project activities total about 15 hours per month.

What do the committees do?

NYLN will have two new committees beginning in January 2011. One will focus on Outreach & Involvement within the community; the other will focus on Education & Media activities.

What are my options?

You have the option to apply to be on the Governing Board and a committee or only a committee. People who serve on our committees attend one phone meeting per month, and work time is about 5 hours per month.

Requirements for serving on the Governing Board or a committee:

Applicants must 1) Be between 16 and 28 years old, 2) Have a disability, 3) Have experience as a leader, 4) Believe in full-inclusion, and 5) Practice disability pride. NYLN is not "disability-specific." Anyone with any disability is welcome to apply.

Important dates:

Applications for the Governing Board or committees are due on Wednesday, October 13, 2010.
Service on the Governing Board or committees begins in January 2011.
